it sounds like you have some hardware issues.... or a virus... I would take it to a tech.

The sudden appearance of this problem after leaving the laptop on for a long time suggests that the most likely culprit is a failure in your laptop's cooling system. Your computer heats up, but its inability to dissipate the heat generated from the CPU and possibly other parts forces thermal shutdown circuitry to kick in. That would explain the fifteen seconds.
It's especially likely to be the case if the computer can't be restarted right after it fails, or fails more quickly if you try to reboot it immediately, but goes back to taking a longer time to shut off if you leave it alone for a long time, since leaving it alone for a long time would let it cool off on its own.
Another thing to check for to confirm a thermal problem is to listen very carefully to the computer as it starts up and compare it to how you remember it running before. If you listen closely enough you may find that you used to hear a fan but no longer can.
Your options are to try and repair it on your own by buying and replacing the fan on your own, if you feel up to it, or take it someplace to have it repaired professionally, if you prefer.
Good luck!

I know this doesn't sound very professional but my laptop has been doing the same thing.I turn it over and hit the back of it (kinda like hitting a coke machine to get it to work)I know something is wrong with it and plan on taking it to Office Depot soon ( when I have the extra money) but this seems to work for now....lol

Is it Wireless? Sometimes you need to let it cool for a while, and let the battery charge. Well, the electricity charge. And YOU SHOULD NEVER LET IT STAY OPEN FOR 3 DAYS IN A ROW! its a very bad idea@! Usualy the limit is 5 hours each day!

I had this problem with my Powerbook once. I no longer use a mac, but some laptops come with a defective battery. Try a new one, and keep it plugged in if you can. Call Tech Support. Unless it's a mac. Then, it's normal.

Try disconnecting the battery and put it back on. If that doesn't work, I suggest calling the tech support for your computer or take it to a store and have the store tech look at it. Good luck on having your computer fix. :)

Can you enter the computers BIOS setup? If you can't enter this setting it's a hardware thing. Sadly, the manufacturer's service center will be your next stop.
