talks to everyone like that...but I don't like it. I like to be addressed by my name, or title, and that is how I treat others at work, I feel names like the fore mentioned, are too personal and should be used for friends and family....I don't want to hurt the womans feelings, I know she means no harm, but how do I tell her to stop? Either refer to me by name, or title....Please help..

I've run into this too, it really is the way that some people talk, they don't mean to be offencive. I think it may also be a way of covering up an embarrassingly poor memory. Every time she calls you that, stop what you are doing, look right at her and tell her politely you really like your name, it was a gift from your mother, and that you'd consider it a real honor if she would use it.

Well Ms. Cupcake, I am guessing that you are in the south where we generally change people's name to cute little phrases. Just be blunt with her. Tell her that you don't like it.

I love being called those names! It's not so bad... is she older than you? Sometimes older people love to say that -- especially to those who appear young (and good looking.) Don't let it bother you, especially seeing that she says it to others.

Just tell her in a nice way, "I do prefer to be called _______ or _____. I would appreciate it if you did too."
