From what I've found digging around in journals and stuff trying to figure out what's wrong with me (8 months ago now) post section, turns out doctors actually don't know where many of the nerve structures are in that area in women. So sometimes when they do abdominal surgery, say, a caesarean for instance, they cut through them. Not what I wanted to hear, but it explains a lot. In some cases the feeling returns (or the pain stops, which is what I want) but in some cases it doesn't seem to.

The easiest to read breakdown of this phenomenon is at http://pregnancy.emedtv.com/cesarean-section/nerve-injury-after-cesarean-section.html, though it's not quite as complete as the journal articles it's less brain-frying.

Anyway, it shouldn't be normal but sadly, it is.

I've had two c-sections, my youngest child is 4 years old. I still have less feeling in the scar area than elsewhere, it's not numb but just not at all sensitive. My theory is that a lot of nerve endings are damaged or severed when the c-sect takes place. However the numbness should not spread further than the scar. Have you mentioned this to yo GP or nurse, you should automatically be called for a six-month post natal check up (if in UK).

This is completely normal so dont worry! I had a c-section almost a year and a half ago and if took about a year or just less for my scar to feel normal again. It fades as well and ends up feeling just like it did before. Don't worry, it will get better~

Im sorry i could no longer be to any extent further help

My scar still feels numb sometimes over 5 years later. I think it is perfectly normal. You shouldn't expect it to feel close to normal until approximately a year later.

Yes, that can happen. You can still regain feeling though. If you are still numb after a year, then chances are that is how it will be. When cutting, they cut through nerves as well. Sometimes they find ways to repair themselves, sometimes not. I had a shoulder surgery that I still have numbness for. It has diminished and become not as bothersome though.
