I have been noticing that all the new game shows are offering 10,000 to one viewer if they answer a question correctly. I am just wondering what is the catch to this, I mean the questions they ask are simple, there has to be a catch. anyone know what it is?

Get more viewers. They can also charge more for advertisers who advertise during their (usually hit) tv shows. It's all about the money and the Nielsen ratings.

the catch is that you can't just call in and answer. when you call or text, you are entered into a drawing. the show makes money from each call / text they receive, and eventually it ads up.. but out of everyone who calls in, only one person gets to actually answer.. the rest are pretty much contributing to the prize ;)

ratings games. the more ratings they get the more, commercials, they throw at you and the advertisers, supply with with some of the prize money etc/ and the bigger the show the more bucks they get from advertisers.

Yes. They have to pay ALOT for the commercial time. I remember thinking the same thing about 'Friends" when each actor was making over $1M per episode.
