The Most Common is Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron. The Lipil has alot of the same vitamins as breast milk. I used that with my first born. If your child can't handle that and starts to spit up alot then talk to your Dr about Enfamil AR Lipil. Thats the best kind!

Hello there,
When I adopted my fifth child I could not relactate due to health problems and therefore had to give my baby formula. It broke my heart to have to make that decision but I really did not have any choice. Having successfully breastfed by other four children until they were well over 1 year old I knew the emotional and physical benefits of nursing.
I started out with the best selling formula that others have mentioned to you here but it gave the baby gas and I was very unhappy with it. I changed to Carnation Good Start. It is supposedly the closest to breastmilk according to my pediatrician. It made a difference for my baby anyway. Another important thing I found was to use the Nuk nipples for newborns and to use the Playtex nursers. They use a sterile plastic bag each time so there is no chance of a contaminated bottle.
Having done it both ways I am astonished that any woman would voluntarily bottle feed her baby. It is a tremendous amount of work and effort. The thing I hated the most was that by the time I finally got a bottle ready for the poor little thing she had cried to the point where she was nearly inconsolable. My breastfed babies only had to whimper and they were fed. Brestfeeding makes for a much happier baby that is very easily comforted. Especially at night, they would just drift right back to sleep and no one (neither my husband or I) had to even wake up. With breastfeeding it was hard to tell that there was even a baby in the house. Wow, with a bottle fed baby , you know they are there! Lots more crying and lots more work. I hated it.
I always held my baby next to my skin so that she could experience the contact that breastfed babies get and I made sure to make it a special one on one time for her. I did everything I could to make it resemble breastfeeding as much as I could. Still I know she did not get all the benefits that my other children got and I felt very bad about it.
I recently found out that there is a device available from La Leche League that allows a mother to feed her baby formula from her breast and therfore have many of the benefits of breastfeeding. You can go to their website and check it out if you are interested www.lalecheleague.org Had I known about it when I adopted my baby I certainly would have used it.
Good luck.
Lady Trinity~ **Maybe what Alias is trying to say is that breastfed babies bowel movements do not have any unpleasant odor and bottle fed babies definitely do. That could be what she was refering to. Other than that I think that formula fed babies will all be the same in that regard, formula is just very hard for babies to digest.**

There are federal standard in place with baby formula so really there not that different. I personally liked Good Start by Nestle for my boys. It seemed to make them less gassy than the other formulas. If you choose to be on the WIC program you have to use whatever the state you live in uses. Mostly similac or enfamil.

Well, when I stopped breastfeeding after 6 months due to little production, I used Similac Isolmil Soy Formula. It's soy, so if your baby turns out to be lactose intolerant it's great. I experienced no fussiness, no spitting up, no gas. Just as you would expect from a breastfed baby. She never got sick, no ear infections. Here's a link to more information:

But that was just my baby. Your baby could react totally different. It may be a trial and error type of thing. Consult your pediatrician if you have chosen one.

Enfamil is quite popular.....Honestly, I used it because they had the best program. You get tons of free formula, checks to help cover the cost of formula, a diaper bag, and other free stuff. The formula comes in the most varieties (soy, AR, gentlease, etc) and in the most versions: powder, concentrate, ready to feed, ready to feed cans, single powder packets, etc.
It is a great product and the only one I have ever used.

Milk based formulas are what babies usually are started out on. Like Similac. But, some babies can't tolerate them and others need special formulas for certain conditions and allergies. So, this is best discussed with the baby's pediatrician to find out which one is best for your baby.

There is no best baby formula for a baby to drink. The best method to chose a formula is to feed it to the child for a few days and then smell the poo. Smelly poo means that the the nutrients from the formla were not needed.

That depends on the baby, and what formula the doctor determines would be best.

Enfamil lipil or lacto free is very gentle for babies, but they're more expensive than similac and other brands.
