The best thing I've used is Aleve Cold and Sinus. It's the only thing I take now for a cold. It takes effect in about 20 minutes and I feel better for hours. It's great because it doesn't make me drowsy, but will let you sleep better as you can breathe! It's the only thing I would recommend. My girlfriend recommends it too, and she's a pharmacy technician for Walgreens.

After about 48-72 hours I'm nearly 100%. Powerful, long-lasting, non-drowsy. What more can you ask for?

Also, take a few Vitamin C and Zink pills. If you start to feel like you're coming down with a cold, try the Zicam nasal spray. It works wonders to shorten the cold if you do it before you get congested.

There are many over the counter products that work very well for symptoms of a severe cold. I use Tylenol Multi Symptom Severe cold formula. It worked great!

Comtrex(maximum strength) multi-symptom cold tablets. They're economical comparatively also.Dayquil or nyquil liquicaps(Vicks). I prefer to take the Nyquil liquicaps all day too and skip the dayquil. Both of these, comtrex and Nyquil are so good when your cold is severe.

vicks or sineutabs. they work great for me. my husband lives on theraflu when he's sick, but like you said, it puts you to sleep. lots of manufaturers have changed there stuff in order to stay over the counter. check the pharmacy. there may be something that works better than you can only get if you ask for it. feel better.

Wow, i was going to say thereaflu. Nothing that I know if work as well as that. It is short lived but while it is working it is the best that i know of. You might want to go consult a doctor or get the extra strength.

id try mucinex-D, you have to get it from behind the pharmacy counter since it has pseudoephedrine. its a combo of guafenisen (which helps break up the gunk in your chest) and pseudoephedrine (which would releive the stuffy nose/head pressure)
