I use swimming fins at my local pool that they provide. I am thinking about buying a pair of my own, and want a pair that would maximize my workout. The question is what kind should I buy: a zoomer or monofins or stick with the standard medium fins. Any feedback is appreciated.

Zoomers are excellent not only for weight loss but also for competitive swimmer's workouts. They are much easier to use in a public pool than a monofin. I love monofin, but it is so fast, that you really can't appreciate it in a pool - you need at least a 50m pool , or open water. In addition, there is no use of the arms. So for the pool, I would stick to the zoomers. In addition, kicking with zoomers is compatible with your competitive strokes- it does not alter the style like regular fins. Standard medium fins are a style all their own, they are more for snorkeling and scuba diving; there is more knee bending. You'll get a super workout with zoomers. That's my advise.
Here are a couple of series that I like to do with zoomers :
400 nonstop : 25 free, 25 fly (repeat).
2x200 undulations nonstop (no kickboard): 50 on your right side, 50 on your belly, 50 on your left side, 50 on your back
(undulations on your back are excellent with zoomers and will delelop your abs)

well, what kind of fins you get really depends on what kind of workout you want. Monofins are usually used to improve ungulation and kick during the butterfly. Zoomers are for people who are serious about their training and maintaining an elevated heart rate throughout their workout because they keep your feet moving faster. I personally would rather use medium fins myself because theyre more versatile and you can do more with them, but if youre into a really hardcore workout and want to improve, go with the zoomers, or if you know someone with a pair, try them for a day

Zoomers are absolutely amazing. They are designed for optimum speed and strength building. Our swim team got an entire set of them to use for training, adn they're worked marvelously. Monofins really hurt your toes, I've noticed Our team has got two sets of those, and My toes ache and get bruised whenever I use them, it's awful. As for standard fins, good if you plan on scube diving, but not very good for strength building. They tend to not react well with ankle motion, and they wear out easily. My old pair tore at the toes. After a couple months. I'd go with the Zoomers. The guy that invented them is a genius. I'd also recommend buying his stretching movie, it's very good.
