I want to setup a "Home or Small Office Network" i have done this before and work perfectly, but i will soon get my DSL line, and i wornder how i going to connect my second computer, CAN I INSTALL two network cards in my first computer? i ask because the first computer need a network card to connect my DSL, and i will need a second network card to connect my second computer can i connect two netwok cards in my first computer? i know that probably your will answer me to get a router or hub or switch. but i want to do this diffrently because i will need this to make work a broadcast. if i can install two network cards on one computer let me know i apreciate your help. thank you

You could install 2 nic cards and use a crossover cable to connect the second PC but setting it up is a pain and for a couple lousy bucks more you could by a router instead! Lots more reliable too!

You could set it up that way (with the two network cards). You would just need to use a crossover cable to connect the two computers together. I'm not sure if you want internet on the second computer or not. I believe you can also share the first computers internet connection this way but I'm not positive. Your easiest option would most likely be to try to use a router or hub like you said so you could use straight-through cables.

Your best bet is to get a router. Connect the router between the modem and the first computer.

Using a crossover cable means that the first computer must be on in order for the second computer to use the internet. This is not the case if your have a router.
