42 year old man to want a pat on the back for doing basic things like taking out the garbage or helping out around the house?

I do a ton more than him and he has no appreciation for it.
I get no pats from him, but when he does anything he wants a gold star.

I work, go to school, take car of our daughter, and do all the fixing around the house, etc....

I don't need a pat on the back for doing the basics, just an equal partner.

Go buy a pack of the gold stars and every time he does something that he should be doing anyway give him a gold star!

Be careful....first it starts out with a pat on the back. Then it goes to a pat on the bum, and then next thing you know they want a little slap and tickle.

:)

I think he wants more than a "pat on the back" if you think that he is pestering you (or worse), contact the authoritys!

everybody wants to hear "good job" even for the trivial easy tasks sometimes. It only takes 2 seconds to say "thank you". What does it hurt?

If he reciprocates whenever 'SHE' does it and the other 1001 chores she must do between the time she gets home from work until she must return to work.

Do unto others as ye would have them do unto you. ;) Bless.

LMFAO! NO! Unless he's handicapped and it was quite a feat for him. Does he pat you on the back when you cook for him or do anything else for him? Tell him to grow the h*ll up.

There's nothing wrong with wanting appreciation. In fact I think it's a great motivator.
