He could be reacting to the light in the heater (if it has one) or to an electrical field that the heater is producing. Other possibilities include things like his reflection in the heater, but really it's practically impossible to tell honestly. As long as the temperature isn't over about 90F he's ok. Temperature close to 80F is best though, but in any case that isn't going to cause him to flare at the heater. He will probably stop before long, sometimes fish just do goofy stuff that we can't explain.

Just take the tank away form the heater. Betas usually dont get along with any other animal or in this case heater because they will feel threatened and flaring out is its way of protecting its self. By staying near the heater u could be adding extra stress to your fish so i would move the fish

Wow thats intersesting. I had a betta and it would flare at the teddy bear beside his tank. Probably if the heater makes noise so the fish wants to attack it. See is its somthing else in the area, not the heater. It is the potable kind of heater? If so, move it to another room and see what happens. If he flares at the spot where the heater used to be then its probably sothing else.

Good luck! Live long little Betta!

Your temperature is fine for him. He may be seeing his reflection in the glass portion of the heater and is trying to fight "the other fish". You could put plants around the heater to keep him away, get a heater cover (dark plastic) or get a different heater with less reflective glass around it.

I think what copperhead say is right. Heaters tend to be reflective glass so he is probably challanging his own reflection lol. Again like said planting around there is a great idea. My Betta flares when he sees a reflection of himself so ive blocked them.

Bettas love the heat their ideal range is 75-85F. He is likely just highly aggressive or sees his reflection in the tamk. Try giving him an hour or so per week of time with a mirror. He may just need an output for pent up aggression.

I think she is referring to the tank heater.

I agree with the other person about the beta seeing his reflection. Betas are very territorial and he doesn't want anyone (in this case his reflection) moving in on his territory.
