Just the question I was pondering the other day.
In terms of titles won:
1.)Notre Dame (13 recognized titles)
2.) Alabama tied with University of Southern California(USC) (11 recognized titles)
Now, Notre Dame won a lot of those titles in the 20's 30's and 40's, and USC is one the best teams of recents times. Michigan and Ohio State are quite a way behind these teams (both 7 titles)
and Oklahoma has nine.
Now in terms of richest history, teams in the Southeast Conference seem to be the most devoted groups in terms of fan loyalty. I'd have to say Tennessee and Alabama have two of the best programs in the history of the sport
