She was cut in half, and the doctors said it looked like if a proffesional did the murder.

Her name was Betty Short, born in Hyde Park, Massachusetts USA.
Short was last seen alive on the evening of January 9, 1947, in the lobby of the Biltmore Hotel at 5th and Olive Streets in Downtown Los Angeles.

On January 15, 1947, Short's mutilated body, severed at the waist, was discovered in a vacant lot in the 3800 block of South Norton Avenue in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles by a woman walking her infant in a stroller. The murder was never solved.

You will see everything at the following sources, crimelibrary has a very big storyline with photos, and reasearch.

Beth Short wasn't a hooker, but she was pretty close. That's how she got herself into that situation. She was alone with a man in his hotel room. They got into an argument cos she wouldn't put out for him and he hit her and knocked her out. then kept on hitting her until he beat her to death.

Then he put her body in the bathtub and cut her in half and let her blood drain out. Then he wrapped her in a shower curtain and carried her down to his car in the middle of the night. That moring, he dumped her body on a green and took off.

The guy who did it was interviewed by police and he told them "a friend of his" committed the crime. He gave them a very detailed account and they were convinced he was the killer. he agreed to come back for questioning the next day. But that night, he was in bed, dropped a cigarette while drunk (he was an alcoholic) and burned himself to death in his hotel room.

The police never got a chance to interview him again and so the murder remained officially unsolved.

You won't find that information in a lot of books because they haven't done the research. That's insider info that I got from a cop I know who worked the case briefly back in the 80s. It's been reassigned to a lot of cops over the years but noone can make any headway. It's also in the book "Severed" if you want to check it out. That'll give you the story in greater detail.

The last thing I should mention is that the cops at the time were never able to determine the real name of the guy that killed Beth Short. The reason was because he used so many aliases during his lifetime (over 20 that we know of) that they just couldn't determine which was his real name, if any. He was pretty old when he died in the hotel fire. (this happened years after the murder was committed).
