okay it was a confusing movie...unneccessary violence at alot of times...it was predictable u knew who was the bad guy...anyways I think Bourne Identity and supremacy were better movies and should of received more publicity than this movie...the movie wasnt bad ..the acting was good and point is good though

Never try to figure out how hollywood determines what awards they will give to themselves, that is after all, exactly what takes place.

The departed is getting a lot of credit and publicity because of the actors in the movie. I personally liked the movie, but Leonardo, Matt, and Mark Walhberg at some point were all teenage heartthrobs and to some people still are and some people like to have a collection of movies with that character. Jack Nicholson has become a major actor. He is good at what he does and is very well liked by America so people think it's worth seeing if someone like him is in it. You're right though there was unneccesary violence, but the mystery of the movie was to see if the police would find out who Costello's "rat" was or if Costello would find out who was the cop in his group, not who was bad and who wasn't. The movie was about deception.

Probably because there isnt a lot of competition for the best picture this year, and Scorcese has a lot of quality movies that havent won. I thought the movie was worth seeing you but you are right about the Bourne Identity; definitely better. Check out Spy Game from a couple years back too
