Alright I was searching around for somet pets, and I came across mice and the sugar gliders but I want to stick to the more average household pet.

I am wondering if anyone knows about a specific breed cat that is miniature, or a miniature dog?? Or even if anyone has an opinion on what they would suggest. I want something that can run arond my house when im home and they wont act out of control, I am basically up for any kind of animal so long as it can handle itself like a dog or a cat. I just want a nice small animal with fur that I ca play with.

if you want something energetic, get a chinchilla

they are high maintenance and somewhat expensive, and they live roughly 15 years, and you cant really cuddle them, but they are very loyal and trusting once you establish a bond. theyre sweet little things that are alot of fun to own.

look into them.

Well, before you adopt a pet, you obviously should understand that you are making a commitment to that pet for the rest of its life, which could be anywhere from 15 to 20 years.

I personally have 2 cats. They are fantastic. They can stay at home by themselves while I'm at work and don't poop and pee everywhere, they don't chew or destroy things, and they take care of themselves. They are also very affectionate and playful and love to hang out with me while I'm watching tv or studying. Another bonus is that I rent my apartment and landlords typically do not have a problem with cats.

I love dogs too and would love to have one, but they are a considerabley higher amount of responsibility--for example, with a dog, if you work long shifts you will have to hire someone to take your dog out to pee during the day, and if you move somewhere, you have to find a landlord that permits dogs and typically pay a [sometimes huge] deposit.

The benefit of cats is that they are less high maintenance.
The benefit of dogs is that they can go places with you.

As far as breeds, for cats you should just adopt a domestic shorthaired cat from your local rescue. And cats are already small, some smaller than others--you don't really need a special breed.

For a dog, I would also recommend adopting a small breed from your local rescue.. they usually have chihuahua mixes and things of the like. Sometimes you can find a purebred small breed dog.

You would be saving an animal's life and also be getting a nice companion.

You really just need to think about how much responsibility you want--ie cleaning a litterbox once/day versus taking a dog outside 4 or 5 times/day, and also the kind of companionship that each species has to offer. My cats cuddle really well, but they don't fetch. :-)

I think u should get a hamster...they are cute, furry, energetic, and trustable. They groom themselves ALOT but u will still have 2 get them a chinchilla bath house with chinchilla bath sand. i have a hamster and he is a good travel pet (i travel ALOT) and he likes to run alot, too. they can run around the house in an excercise ball for 15-20 mins, but u will have to supervise them. they sleep all day and play all night but u can teach them to sleep at night and play in the daytime. If u dont want to do this, then just wake them up gently but DO NOT suprise them cuz they WILL BITE. Anyways, a hamster is a good pet if u want a good, trustable, energetive companion. They are also fairly cheap.

I have had Surgar gliders before! they are really fun, but you would have to be willing to treat them everyday. With mice, they don't live that long and aren't really hardy.
I would recon mend a bunny, Ginnie pig, or a rat. with all these critters, they are hardy and friendly. If you are looking for a mating kind of pet, rat reproduce the fastest. But a bunny would be the best choice because they won't bite, REALLY friendly and you can train them and they can run around the house.

well, large rats tend to be very social.

but i have a miniature dachshund and she's the sweetest little thing. not like an ankle biter. she doesn't bark or bite or anything! she doesn't beg too much and she listens to me most of the time. i dunno if all mini dachshunds are like this or maybe i just lucked out with the sweetest dog ever.

little pugs seem to be tamed for the most part, but they just like to bark a lot. i've also had good experiences with tea cup poodles. the really really tiny ones... they are like manhattan rats with longer legs. the ones i've been around didn't bark much or were mean with anyone they just liked to play and snuggle.

pomeranian dogs are good for people like that, they are small and never get very big at all. i have one and she is energetic, and ready to play if i am, but if i am not she may just sleep or rest. they are a long hair breed. everyone i have talked to says the love theirs, and if they dont have one the love mine. even in as they age they still are energetic, where a lot of dogs arent. mine is 5, but i no another that is 9 and is still as energetic as a puppy, if you want her to be.

generally smaller animals require lots of attention. you will not find a toy breed that doesn't need TONS of attention. rats are good pets but they need to be in same sex pairs and they need you to play with them at least an hour a day.

you should get a cat, not a fluffy one though, i would go for a shor-haired siamese, they are very independant but they also like the attention

Why not get a siamese cat?
