I'm hating Norton right now. All it does is block me from going to websites that have advertising (which is pretty much EVERY website!). Legitimate, reputable sites that I could go to before, I can no longer go to since I unknowingly checked some Norton option to block them, but now I can't find that option again to unblock it. And I can't even disable Norton as a whole! And it never finds any viruses anyway when it scans my system! HATE Norton!

Of course, I didn't like McAfee much either when I had it. Those jerks kept automatically renewing my subscription each year when I had specifically told them not to. But I don't remember McAfee totally messing up my net surfing abilities the way Norton is currently doing. HATE Norton!

For spyware, I bought Spy Sweeper, but I didn't like that too much either. It never found any high risk items during the scans. I feel like all these anti-virus/anti-spyware packages are just useless crap to give you a false sense of security. HATE them all!!!

Norton is a good choice to have all though it can make your computer run a bit slow, if you are not happy with it and want to try something different then why not give PCguard a try ?.
if you are not a virgin media customer ( ex NTL ) then this is what you can download for free.
# 1.Anti-virus
# 2.Fire wall
# 3.pop up blocker
# 4.privacy manager
if you are a customer then the additional features are included.
# 5.Anit-spyware
# 6 Identity theft protection
# 7.Privacy manager
PCguard is updated every three hours so you remain protected.
if at any time you want to turn off PCguard then simply disable it and return back to Norton Internet Security 2007.
remember only have one firewall enabled at any one time for if there are two or more firewalls running at the same time can conflict with each other.
the web address is as follows.

Good luck

Neither. Quite simply, those are two of the worst, most overrated antivirus programs on the market. They are both resource hogs that will slow down your computer. If you think Norton is poor protection, you won't believe how weak McAfee is. It truly is pathetic.

Best Antivirus: either Kaspersky, or NOD32
Best Free Antivirus: Avast, although AVG uses less memory so it runs a little faster.

For Antispyware I'd recommend any of the following they are all free:
Ad-Aware SE personal www.lavasoft.com
AVG Antispyware (Ewido) www.avg.com or www.ewido.com
Spybot Search and Destroy www.download.com

McAfee seems to be working well for me,tried norton but never again, it failed to deal with a virus infection although it was quite happy to tell me i'd got one! For spyware protection i run webroot spysweeper and am more than satisfied with it,also have adaware which is always highly recommended.

neither don't waste your money, i run 3 on line everyday of the week, and i have tried most, until i tried avast, it free and its the best, never had a problem with it stops everything, better than AVG, also you will find that not one program will give you full protection, as well as avast, i run ad-aware, and use yahoo pop up blocker, so far nothing has go through, and the speed has not slowed down which some other programs do

McAfee is better than Norton but before you buy McAfee you need more RAM. To install McAfee program you gonna need at least 256MB so it gonna make your PC slow down. I had McAfee but it made my PC really slow. I switched to Kaspersky. It just takes about 128MB and your PC runs smoothly. Kaspersky also provides hourly updates so that means your computer won't get infected virus and spyware. I recommended McAfee but it takes more RAM to run and make your PC slow.

McAfee is probably the better piece of kit, also Norton uses a lot of system resources and thus slows the PC down a bit and McAfee is a little less greedy at this.

I've tried both but the one I prefer is Grisofts AVG ..It works very well for virus protection , and its free. Lavasoft Ad-Aware is a good spyware program and it is also free.
