My daughter is breastfed ( I don't know if thats relevant) and also uses a sucky once in a while. I feel guilty when she falls asleep with it. Like she should be falling asleep at the boob. Do you think she knows the differance? Would she not take it if she was hungry? Again, she doesnt use it often, and shes only 7 weeks old.

She knows the difference. If she isn't hungry, but still needs to suck, the soother is the best thing for her. If she falls asleep wth it, thats fine. Don't feel guilty, she's just not hungry, thats all. She'll let you know when she wants to eat, and when she's done, she'll let you know that too. Its ok, be happy, enjoy her!

If your daughter was still that hungry she would wake up and eat, baby's are wired that way. The pacifier (sucky) is a soother. Some babies need to continue to suckle even though they are no longer hungry. It's great if she can do that at the breast, but sometimes that's just not possible. You say that she doesn't use it often. She gets comfort from the pacifier, that's all.

If she's only 7 weeks old, I wouldn't be using the pacifier. At this point, your milk flow is still trying to regulate... she's growing rapidly... and she needs to get as much milk from you as possible, to encourage more milk flow and to give her all the nutrition she needs. And... at 7 weeks, she probably doesn't understand the difference between the pacifier and the breast.

She would reject the pacifier if she were hungry.

And don't feel bad if she falls asleep with it instead of nursing, you can't have her hanging off oyu forever and it will make it easier on you for weening when older if she doesn't fall asleep at the breast.

Oh, my gosh, you WANT to be a human pacifier? It is MUCH better for your child to fall asleep with a pacifier than with your breast in their mouth. It's even a SIDs preventer.

My son was bottle fed because he had no patentience for the breast. He always spit out the paci and keep crying when he was hungry.
