Yes she is a south Indian .Her full name is Bhanurekha,but came to be known as Rekha when she made it big in hindi films. She is the daughter of Jamini Ganeshan ,a renowned south indian actor ,popularly called Kathal Mannan meaning king of romance. She was born to one of the wives of Ganesh ,Pushpavalli a telugu actress.Her step mother Savitri was also a superb actress and the pair of Jamini Ganesh and Savitri was considered the best romantic pair of south at that time.
