That's really a big "it depends" question.

Some things it could depend on:

1) your computer itself
-If you have a video card with connections for RCA or S-Video inputs there's a better chance you can.

2) the portable dvd player
-does it have output connections? usually they have a headphone jack that you can use for audio output but you will also need some kind of video output. Mine has a little plug that looks like a headphone style jack colored yellow (code for video) that I can output from. It all really depends on the player though and what kind of connections it provides.

At radio shack or somewhere comparable you can usually find a cable that will go from a headphone type plug to an RCA type plug if the i/o are different types.

The important thing though is to look at the inputs and outputs on each device and see if they are the same or can be adapted.

Hey! I just asked my husband your question and he said if you have the right cables you could...unfortunately most dvd players (portable) and computers do not share the same connection family. if you found a cable that plugged into the single video port on your computer which has one plug and then on the other end had regular audio visual connections you could be successful. good luck!

More than likely, no.

If you mean one of those portable players with the built-in screen, then it depends on whether the player has audio and video output connectors and you have the ability to receive those signals in the computer. If you haven't added any special video cards to the computer, then you won't be able to connect it.
