"The Scarlet Ibis James Hurst" How did doodle die?

I know doodle did die but I don't understand how he died. I read only part of the story because part of it was in my lit book for class. And now I want to know how he died. I know his brother left him in the woods and junk, and like he was bleeding from the mouth or whatever but why was he bleeding? And how did he Die? Answerrrs Pleasee.

I've taught this story several times with my ninth graders. Doodle's cause of death is never officially given, but I believe you're meant to assume that his frail body has finally given out. You're given some foreshadowing: Doodle's been sick the last few months due to his "workouts" and he hasn't been sleeping well.

The question, to me, was never how he died. I always questioned my students as to whether or not they thought the brother was responsible for Doodle's death.

i read this in english class..

when they were running home his brother was frustrated with doodle and ran ahead, knowing doodle couldn't keep up. doodle's pleading for his brother to come back was drowned out by the rain. his brother did evenually go back to find doodle dead and bleeding from the mouth.. it dosn't say exactly what had happened to him. i assumed that he either fell, and then died due to emotional stress, because he was so weak, but that's just my opinion.
