WARNING: The following response may be considered disgusting by some individuals. Reader discretion is advised.

Some people have found that at initial onset of hiccups can be halted by inducing vomiting by use of the gag reflex.

In more severe cases the use of certain types of food such as very mild guacamole or just plain avocado with salt can be effective.
I f the problem persists and the doctor can't do anything for you, you need to experiment with different foods and other non drug type home remedies.

Something out there is going to work.

Of course prayer is always advised.

Sorry, I do not have a remedy, I just bear with it until they are gone. Which is usually in a few minutes. Good luck to you! (If you're the one with the hiccups.)

Drinking from the far side of the glass

Most hiccup cures were probably invented just to amuse the patient's friend anyway

Drinking 9 sips of water without breathing or looking at the bottom of the glass.

1. Hold my breath
2. Have someone surprise/scare me
3. Spoon full of sugar
4. Scratch my ears
5. Chew Bubblegum
6. Try to force burping

They all have worked at one time or another.

Eat. It makes me kind of ignore them and for some reason that makes them go away. My sister swears by putting a paper towel over a cup of water and drinking through it. She says you have to concentrate so hard on drinking through a paper towel and trying not to spill it that it makes them go away. I never tried it though, it sounds silly.
