My 6 mos. old son ate his rice cereal just great before... he is a wonderful eater in general. He eats his fruits and veggies just great also. Lately, though, he's been grunting and spitting when I feed him the rice cereal. I'll switch to something else (like applesauce or sweet potatoes) and he does just fine, but when I go back to the rice cereal he goes right back to the grunting at me and spitting it out. My concern is that he'll be missing out on key nutrients if he doesn't eat his rice cereal... Thoughts or suggestions??? Any other moms or dads deal with this with their baby??? Thanks in advance!

He's bored with it! My son did it, too, after thoroughly enjoying rice cereal for months. Just mix in one of his favorites and he'll eat it up. You're right, the rice cereal does have a lot of vitamins and other good stuff in it, so if you can get him to eat it the better. I would throw in a few spoonfuls of sweet potatoes or sweet peas (yuck!) and that did the trick! Also, keep in mind the texture: my son didn't like it too watery or too thick. And don't worry, he'll be on to bigger and better (and messier!) foods before you know it!

The rice cereal really isn't providing much in the way of nutrition. Just like your diet, if you cut out the carbs, you're left with most of what we humans need for proper nutrition.

Most of the benefit of the rice cereal is the feeling of fullness, and how long this sticks with him.

If he's happy with his other food, you're probably better off. If you're really worried, try mixing a little of the rice cereal into the other foods.

Um maybe he's just deciding what he likes to eat. I mean, have you ever actually tasted Rice cereal?? Its nasty!!!!

As long as you are still nursing or feeding formula like is recommended at that age (you should nurse or feed formula for at LEAST a year, preferably longer) then he won't be missing out on any vitamins/nutrients.

Plus, unlike most jarred baby food rice cereal has a lot of preservatives so if you cut it out he's going to be better for it I feel.

Try adding some favorite fruit or veggie to the cereal. Cereal does have great key nutrients like iron and folic acid so you are right to want to keep feeding it to him. It just maybe getting to bland tasting now.

It doesn't taste as good as "real" food. I always mixed my cereal with some type of fruit. I would just empty the jar of baby food in a bowl and ad enough cereal to make it look a little lumpy. Not to much or it to will tast like cereal.

Babies and toddlers go through stages with their food. They love something one day, hate it the next, and later like it again :) It's perfectly normal. For now, when you are trying to get him to eat his cereal, mix it together with a food that he does like to eat right now :)

My kids are all so picky that I asked the doctor about their eating habits. If he doesnt want to eat it then dont force him.Maybe next month all he will want is rice and then the next month only fruits.Since he is eating fruits and veggies and formula i would'nt worry at all.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If he doesn't like it, don't force him to eat it. He can get his key nutrients from other sources of food and he will be just fine.
