No different from the past: Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Chocolate Watchband were REAL sixties groups.

and Death Cab For Cutie was a quirky tune from the Bonzo Dog DooDah Band, which was actually featured in the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour Movie!

It's nothing new. Remember Strawberry Alarm Clock or The Flying Burrito Brothers? I should point out that the latter is an awesome band in spite of their name.

I listen to a couple of those bands.....

Most band names make no sense. Different and unique names just get looked at quicker. That's how a band catches my eye.

As long as the music is good it shouldn't really matter anyway.

I think bands have always had strange and sometimes ridiculous names. As long as the music is good who cares. Besides have you noticed some of the names people use for email accounts. crazy

Because every good name for a band has been taken by now, so ehy are forced to make something stupid and meaningless up. But i dont think avenged sevenfold is a terrible name, and their music kicks ***

Because they all believe they're true artists and want something that sounds fresh and new. Unfortunately, none of these bands have the talent or vision to pull their sub-par ideas together. And none of them know anything about the very music they're playing. But during Rock's golden era (the '60s), there were plenty of strange band names... How could there not be during the psychedelic revolution?
