I simply can't believe it is so, but it is true, it is happening in America. I read the article at http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070222#story0 and did a little research, found it is true, there is a woman facing years in prison, simply because some pop up ads came up, and she couldn't get them to stop.

Now, what can we do to help her? On her blog site, there are some addresses of people involved, is anyone willing to send e-mails to the jerks responsible for this miscarriage of justice?

What are some other ideas to help this poor woman? Let's put our collective heads together and help stop this horrible injustice.

I read the article-this is unbelievable!

I've sent 3 emails.

How can the court not allow Julie to defend herself? I've heard of that happening in other cases, but find it mind-boggling that the state could do such a patently unjust thing.

Can her lawyer move for a dismissal of all charges due to the injustices and sloppy police work?

You do well to publicize this.

Are any of the principals up for reelection?

Maybe she could sue the school for negligence that endangered both her and the children.

Make up fliers with the details of the case. Pass them out in front of the school. Name who was the principal when the software expired and when the incident happened. Pass them out to parents when they come for a PTA meeting, pointing out that the principal endangered their children and asking them if they really want someone that irresponsible being in charge of their education. I know he's not the prime mover right now, but he's got to have friends and influence.

Name the prosecutor, etc. Pass out fliers everywhere. Ask everyone to bring pressure to bear. Hold a rally in front of the Governor's mansion. Also, hold a rally in front of the courthouse when she goes for sentencing. Get the local news camera out there, if possible. If not, get personal video cameras there.

These people have gone so far in this that they can't quit without looking really stupid and opening themselves up for lawsuits, so they will stick to their guns tenaciously (sp?). Perhaps Julie could make a deal with them--she won't sue if they'll drop the charges, reimburse her for her expenses, and restore her to good standing as a teacher (if she still wants the job!). I do think an agreement not to sue will be necessary.

As for those who slam her for not shutting down the computer, here is a line from the linked article: "Substitutes didn't have their own accounts, and were ordered not to log out or shut down the computer."

Those pop-up ads never show up on my computer. Internet security software installed that won't allow the software that causes them to download. I also use a pop-up blocker and stay away from x-rated websites. If you send e-mail to the 'jerks', you will only give them you e-mail address and they will return the favor a million times over.

Maryfrance: You said substitutes were ordered not to shut down the computers. If I was ordered not to defend myself from a man with a gun, I would ignore that order. She DID have an option.

Common sense would say, if your in a room full of children, and porn pops up on your screen, and you cant get it to stop, shut off the moniter. At lunch time, try to get rid of it. If it doesn't work. Shut it down.

It's true she might go to prison but UNTRUE that that there was nothing she could do.

You can always - unplug the computer - either frlom the internet or from its power supply. Either one would have worked.

I believe you're referring to the teacher who had porn pop ups at school, she didn't have the brains to pull the plug on it
