Why not get 4 or 5 boxes, a few colored light bulbs, and some tomato plants (or other small plant). Say you get blue, red and green light bulbs. Grow some plants covered by one box that has the blue lights, one box with the red lights and one box with the green lights. Measure how they grow every other day (say). Which light grows them the best? Oh, yes, your control group could be a set of plants that grow in ordinary sun-light.
