i wiped it all off, but i know alcohol can damage cds. now that i've wiped it off, is it safe to try playing the cds? we recently got brand new boom boxes for the whole house, so i don't want to risk anything that would break the players...

thanks.

it's safe to clean with water and soap.
Alcohol is not a problem either.
You don't want solvent as it would dull the surface and cd would not play.
some people use turtle wax to fix scratched cds...
Dry your cleaned discs with some paper towels and you are good to go.
when wiping always wipe from center to edge or edge to center but never in a circular motion as if you scratch it, the data is recorded around the disc, the player can correct an error on every circle but not a whole circle of errors.
kids are so fun!

Just make sure they are dry. I have totally submerged cds before as long as they are dry you can play them.
