How is the money raised for a presidential campaign?

like the 500 million dollars that is spent on campaigns. how is it raised?

Ok here ya go...A candidate is aproached by a special interest group...now this could be the NRA, Steelworkers, NEA, etc...(there is a book in your local Law Library that has a list of all the active associations in the United States...its about three inches thick). The association(s) that desires a particular candidate will help to fund an 'exploratory campaign' to determine if running for that office is a viable decision. So the candidate can and will use this money to run around getting enough signatures to run for that particular office they do this with speeches and special appearances and dinners. Once they have enough signatures and make the decision to run they can no longer take the "special interest" donations to help in their campaign. They now have to rely on individual donations, and money donated by their respective parties. Corporations can now give to to the RNC or the DNC and. This money is used to stage debates and more fund raising. Whatever money is left over can go to the campaign of whoever the Republican or Democrats have nominated to run...This is called "soft money" contributions. Quite often candidates will have dinners to raise money for their campaigns which can cost upwards of 2,3,4, even 5000 dollars per plate. These fund raisers are their way of getting in touch with the "mainstream voters"...I don't know about you but I haven't seen an invite to a dinner that would cost me a months salary to attend that I would waste my money on. And of course you can also donate cash to whatever candidate you wish to...there is a cap on how much you can donate though. Another way for them to get money is from Government matching funds...but most don't take this option as it limits how much they can spend on a race...Confuse you yet?

All federal races should be publicly funded. That would put all candidates on a level playing field, making their stances on the issues the deciding factor of their electability. Too often, donations to campaigns are turned into favors down the road. Big oil, Defense contractors, and the pharmacueticals were the biggest contributors to the GOP---Any questions?

Campaign contributions from individuals and PACs. Texas cannot use company funds for campaign contributions, so not sure about the rest of the state. PACs are Political Action Committees that raises money through fund raising and soliticiting individuals.

actually most politicians are already millionaires and have connections with other millionaires from whom they can borrow money in exchange for having favourable laws passed or unfavourable laws prevented from being passed. why do you think everything only benefits the Bushes and Haliburtons of the world?? the system doesn't really support the common low or middle class person. the country is ruled by a small group of rich people that's why things are the way they are. the corporations own us.

Its all donated and there are strict guidelines on how much can be given by individuals to any candidate. What is pretty much unregulated are donations to each party. That's why big businesses can donate such large amounts, they just donate it to the party not an individual candidate(soft money). And before you all start bashing big businesses they donate to both sides of the aisle.

private donations.. such as a person like you and me mailing in a check...
corporate contributions generally these are donated to the party.
special interest group donations... like you know the NRA gives money to repubs, PETA, the Sierra club etc.. generally give alot of money to dems.

love your nickname however politicians have people to wipe for them and have no care for the little guy especially after the little guy has cast his/her vote. besides the money they are spending isn't real money its American dollars and everyone knows the money has no real value especially when they print it without anything behind it. And the biggest spenders are all from the Sennett and I am so excited that we have three to choose from it's like Christmas for me all year long have fun with it while it last

By donations. They have fundraiser dinners and regular old people contribute money out of their pockets. Plus candidates can use their own money (which most of them have).
