I agree with Lbuffo, Tums is it! I went through 2 bottles the last 3 months of my first baby and 1 bottle with my second! Just completely chew 2 tablets and swallow all at once. Its only calcium carbonate so its helps also! Its happening because the baby is pushing up all of your organs and that is unfortunately the downside, Tums will definitely help!

Acid reflux is a symptom that your body is not digesting the food you are eating. It's an effect. Instead of curing the effect why not cure the cause.

Why aren't you digesting your food? If you are eating a lot of processed foods, you may not be getting enough enzymes in your food to digest it. Natural foods like fruits and vegetables have enzymes in them to help you digest them. Processed foods do not. Also, your body produces enzymes to help you digest your food. When your body does not produce enough enzymes then it has to produce more acid in the stomach to digest your food and this is the beginning of acid reflux.

Instead of taking Rolaids, tums, pepsid when you have acid reflux, why not add digestive enzymes when you eat. You can get a 270 tablet bottle (3 month supply) at your local health food store for about $20 (much cheaper than the acid reflux med). Just take one at the beginning of each meal. These enzymes are the same type that your body makes and are safe for pregnant women.

I personally use Essential Enzymes from Source Natural.

Or a few minutes before each meal eat some fruit that is high in Malic acid (like apples, peaches, cantaloupe) or pectin (pineapple, papaya).. Those will help you to digest your food better.

OTC things like Tums, Zantac, Rolaids, etc are safe for pregnant women. Just make sure you don't exceed the dosage, when I was pregnant with my son I was popping Tums like candy, and then realized I was taking more than triple the daily dosage! But those should work for mild reflux. If it gets much worse, you can be prescribed Nexium. That was a miracle drug for me! I started on it at 8 months when pregnant with my son, and at 2 months when pregnant with my daughter.

I had HORRIBLE acid reflux when I was pregnant (baby is now 1 month old) and I thought it was just something I would have to endure as part of being pregnant. Well... I told my OB about it when I was 7 months and she prescribed me Nexium... BEST THING EVER! Instant relief, no more sucking down the Tums.

Tums worked in my first two pregnancies, but in my third I had REAL reflux like you are describing. I ran out of the script they gave me on a Sunday so I bought pepcid Complete (after asking my sdoctor) and it was 10X better than the script! Ask if you can use Pepcid Complete if Tums aren't working. I was told NO Rolaids because they have ingredients like PeptoBismal which is bad in pregnancy.

I'm 35 weeks and this is my 2nd with both children I had SEVERE what they called heartburn. I've tried milk, water, ice cream about everything. You can try tums but that didn't work for me. At one point I had to go to the hospital and they had to give me some heartburn medicine and numbing medicine. The only thing that can stall it is pepcid complete. try to stay away from acid prone foods like anything with oranges, tomatos(which is hard to do when i crave italian foods) spicy food. u may have to get an prescribed acid relux medicine try the pepcid complete first and then talk to your doctor. Good Luck.

Ask your doctor about medications.

Acid Reflex is very common while pregnant.

Don't eat two hours before bedtime.

With pillows prop yourself up to a 45 degree angle if you can.

When you drop the baby lower you will have less pressure on your stomach.

Get a prescription for Pepcid. I have dealt with heartburn, reflux and all for my whole pregnancy but my dr just gave me Pepcid and I have not had heartburn for 3 days now. Feels so much better. Good luck

TUMS helped me with the throat burning sensation... They're mild and you can take 2-4 of them at a time. My midwife ok-ed them for me when I was about 7 mos. prego too. Good luck!!!
