About 5.8 percent of all people ever born are alive today.

A long description of how this number was determined:

I'm pretty sure that's not the case. I'd have to do some math to substantiate that, though. How do you want to define "people"? Our current species is generally considered to extend back about 200,000 years, but the range could be shorter, or much longer, depending on how you want to define the group. Addendum: Let's look at it this way. The Earth's population was about 450 million back when the Bubonic Plague hit back around 1400. So, there have been atleast a third of a billion people on the planet each century since then, and probably for a number of centuries before then. Even if people lived 50 years on average back then, that's about a billion people that die per century. Even if the Earth's population was only 50 million prior to the 20th century, that equals ten billion deaths over the last 10,000 years *alone*. And you've got another 190,000 years to add up before that.

You ask a great question and one that cannot be answered in this forum. The only way to know is to integrate a graph of human population vs time. But how much time? And how quickly did the human race grow? And, do you believe in a cataclysmic flood? To make a very long story short, I would estimate about 80 billion have already existed. Now you do the math.

Population Research Bureau did a guesstimate at 5.8%. To see how they figured it, scroll to the bottom of this link:

Almost all of them, probably 99.9 percent !!! Seems to me this question could have been asked in the philosophy section, specifically under reincarnation. Nice to see you again, and again, and again. LOL
