Ultimately, you could die. If left untreated, it can lead to a kidney infection, then kidney failure....which you can die from.

The person starts to act goofy. This is usually how you can tell if an elderly individual has a UTI. Beyond that, you'd be looking at the infection moving up into the kidneys. Ultimately, if it go there and went untreated you'd have kidney failure.

UTI are caused by microorganism in the urinary tract. E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, psuedomonas aerogenosa are some of the microbes that can infect the urinary tract. The most common one is the E. coli, which lives in the large instestine and colon. Females are mostly the ones affected easily because of anatomical reason. The anus is near the ureters, and if unhygenic or improper use of tissue paper after urinating, that is, wiping from back to front, can carry the E. coli from the anus to the urethra.
If UTI were to be left untreated, it will cause you bigger problems. the microbes will climb to your ureters, bladder and eventually the kidney. It will cause pyelonephritis when it reach the kidneys. and it would be harder to treat than just simple UTI.
Have your urine check for urinalysis, and if you have UTI, have it treated right away. The doctor might request for a culture and sensitivity test for him to see what kind of antibiotics can best kill the specific type of microbes.
Drink lots of fluid, water, cranberry juice. Don't wear too tight undies and jeans. when wiping tissue paper, do wipe from front to back or better yet don't wipe, just blot. AND don't take bubble baths anymore.

Bubble baths can cause them. so can not drinking enough water or cranberry juice. also having sex can increase your chances of getting one too. Drinking cranberry juice daily along with drinking water can help prevent them. Untreated UTI's can cause kidney damage.

You can kill your kidneys. Get to a doctor now and get it treated. And stop the bubble baths. Take baths any time you want, but don't add the irritants.

There are some good products that you can but OTC one is called uristat. It works well , but if you still have symptoms it would be better to go see your doctor because untreated it can lead to kidney infection and make you very sick.
