There are all kinds of magick.

There is low magic of Wicca, Kahunaism, Native Americans, aborignee (SP?), Voo Doo, etc

Then there is Ceremonial magick.

What are you interested in?

You may consider yourself a pagan, but you have done no studying. You need to read...read...and read some more. Practical magic, as in the film of the same name doesn't work in the same manner. Nor does magic as seen on any TV program or in any movie.

Start with the sites below, go to the library, buy books, and find the path that is right for you.

Blessed Be!

practical magic(k) is magic(k) that can be done with things you already have. Levitation is a parlor trick it is not magic(k) in the sense that you are using your Will to affect change. It is stage magic. learn about it here

http://www.wikihow.com/Perform-the-Balducci-Levitation

Some use a (k) to delineate the two... I am not a Thelemite so I usually do not...

However I will here because the context is not clear.

A form of practical magic(k) is sigil work, where you create a sigil of art using a pen & paper

Another is talismanic magic(k), where you can use any number of items ibued with your energy, to create a "talisman"

Most kitchen witchery is practical magic(k)

Theurgy is invoking a dieity or dieties to aid in your working, it is most like prayer, and it is also practical magic(k)

It is such a broad & encompassing term, that all aspects cannot really be explored here.

As for my use of practical magic(k), I work with the runes of the elder futhark. By intoning thier power sounds, you awaken their magical uses, and invoke the dieties that they represent to aid you in your working. It is both sigil work and theurgy. All I need is my voice, and my knowledge of the runes.

Telepathy happens between people who are "good transmitters" and /or "good recievers" my husband & I are a good example, we are both good transmitters & good recievers... it drives our children batty when we finish each others sentances, and when we read thier minds...my oldest has finally conceded as he says "I may as well tell the truth... Mom always knows"

If you are interested in exploring telepathy, get a partner (friend, sibling, significant other) to practice with. Start by one looking a pictures or playing cards and the other trying to guess what each is.

As for learning magic(k) the best place to look is your local community. Is there a "curious goods" or occult supplier in your town? if so visit them and see if they offer classes or workshops. Also festival season starts May first(at least around here) most festivals offer classes & workshops and they are all over.
Check witchvox for local individuals & groups http://www.witchvox.com/xvn.html.
good luck to you

I wouldn't practice magic just by asking others.
I also wouldn't invoke deities without knowing who---or what----is responding to you. Especially in your HOUSE.
Would you know how to remove what you invited inside?
~just a thought.

Oh, and be careful when joining other groups. Some people form groups just to control others. I'm not saying ALL are like that, but a ,lot are. Not sure which is worse, group leader out of control, or unknown force coming into your house.

Practical Magick à la the movie?

I would say the at "Practical Magick" is knowledge that is simple truth to those of the Lore, but unknown or rebuked by the mass population. I've had those who thought the old brown bottle of oil of cloves in my 1st aid kit is Magick when I say, "will burn a bit then pain withdraw." Archaic words and phrasing, but this is as I was taught as a child.

i'm pagan as well. i would suggest the best way to learn things is to find a good pagan group in your area and network - meet people. we're all over and right under your noses, but sometimes a little hard to find. good luck and practice responsibly

To me the only practical magic is love, and anyone with an idea on how to that... well I see a fortune in your future.

That would depend on what type of magic, element, religion, witch/wizard/warlock, personality, etc. Be more specific.
