The first step is education. You'll need a degree. While in school you can work part time or as a volunteer doing marketing. That will help you get your foot in the door of a really good company to start you off right. Volunteering may even be the best way because you can network during school and get personal with other staff members and clients as well as donators.

Marketing is a recognized college course where you can get proper qualifications. Ask about it at your local college and take it from there.

If you plan to work while studying, apply for a job in the marketing dept of a large company, where you will get practical experience as well. Procter and Gamble have a reputation for brilliant marketing.
