Mice are nocturnal by nature. In the wild they forage for food at night to avoid most predators. They will sleep most of the day.

Mice & rats are Nocturnal animals, so you will find that they are more active at night(which is their normal time to be awake and active) than through the day(which is when they normally rest after their nocturnal activities). Hope this helps you...... PS. Remove any exercise wheels that need oiling - before you go to bed!!! I found that one out the hard way!

if I may add some insight since I've had a few mice myself, it depends on various things now don't get me wrong I know mice are nocturnal however if you have them in a basement then they'll be active anytime because they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between night and day...

But if you have them in a area that they get a lot of light and such then they should be up at night hours... ALSO please keep in mind like I said if you keep them in the basement if your bedroom is there then the light in your room will be considered "the sun" for them and when you have it off they'll get up but if they are up and you turn it on then they'll goto bed in a short time.... trust me I know it happens with my hamster...

anyways I hope this helps feel free to check out stuff about the pets we've had by going: http://4einc.info
and clicking on the Our Pets link, we plan on expanding it in due time with much information on both.

definately at night they are moreactive. the reason is that they are in the rodent family and all rodents are nocturnal, of course you can expect mice to be up in the day sometimes for food, and stuff. they are just MOVE active at night.
hope i helped!

Night, like the hamster, they tend to be nocturnal. Fewer people interfering with their getting into your cupboards. And outside there is really only owls and the occasional outdoor cat.
