Has today's youth lost touch with what true musicianship is? What happened to today's so-called music? Art of actual playing of an instrument instead of sampling, does it exist? Thug-life, why? To increase the deterioration of our youth?

Ah, spoken like a true fuddy-duddy older person! Firstly, when was the youth of our culture so musically enlightened? Our parents HATED our music! We hated their's and that's how it works.

And the next point is that sampling isn't as easy and artless as you might think. It takes real and legitimate musicianship to arrange and compose music on the digital canvas.

The final thought is for old farts like us - if we have young people around, we should share some music with them and let them share their's with us. If they've never heard jazz, blues, bluegrass, folk or older rock we can open them up to it.

But it isn't productive to sigh and complain about the sad state of artistic affairs. Besides, when they have kids, the same thing will happen to THEM. Then it will be THEIR turn to say, "Gee, the youth of today doesn't have good music like 50 Cent, Jay-Z or Slipknot."

It all doesn't have to stem from playing of an Actual Instrument. Most songwriters can't even really play an instrument all that well. Some do. I think it all has to deal with how well you can interperet the lyrics and How everything just flows. I do think todays youth and some adults are just straight out of touch with this aspect of music to the point that all they decipher is noise.

Well, let's not make generalizations now. I personally play the Bass and Guitar, and I also personally have no attraction to today's music. Unfortuneately, sampled music is what is popular these days, which is why you hear these hits. Although the 80's had many one hit wonder bands, I have seen just as many or more in the current time period.

there are plenty of us youth out here that appreciate musicianship.
so much so that pretty much anybody that can play a guitar goes out and starts a band.
