I was joking around with a couple of coworkers about a small toy doll, calling it a Voodoo doll. We joked about it bringing bad luck to a coworker we don’t like. Somehow, the word got back to the coworker we don’t like and now he is suing! I’ve apologized to him for the misunderstanding, but he still wants his day in court. I’m spellbound!

My money is on the judge throwing the case out. I wouldn't worry, but I would get a lawyer...

If you are able to have someone simulate losing a court case with the doll at just the right time, it could get you out of this mess.... you know, if it comes to that...

Just my $.02

I suggest you cover your bases just in case. If your company has a conflict resolution program, try and take advantage of it. Send a written apology to the offended party and seek legal advice from a lawyer, if your company has a legal department for it's employees, use it. Document everything you do to resolve this matter peacefully. If you do this, and the case goes to court, Show the judge the efforts you've made to resolve this conflict. This should prove that the offended party is merely trying to be vindictive because his feelings were hurt. Good Luck.

If this is as far as it went, his money your time. Sounds like this person does not have a very good sense of humor. I really don't believe it will get to far, the person would have to suffer from mental anguish over this. Also there would have to be defamation of character or slander. If these things was done you may have a problem.

They won't be able to find you guilty since 1) the judge probably won't believe anything about "voodoo", and 2) it's not breaking a law
But that's so funny!

If you are getting sued anyway, you might as well go ahead and stick a few pins in just in case it actually works. Why not get your money's worth?

lmao! He must believe in the thing. I doubt he's going to sue. And, for what? The court will laugh him right out of there. Then again, if someone can sue for hot coffee... Where is your boss in all of this and why aren't they handling it?

What is this person's desired outcome, what does he/she stand to gain? Any good lawyer or judge would ask this right away. It will probably go away.
