No, the point of them putting makeup on you is to try to get you to buy their stuff. So, pick a makeup counter that has makeup that you like or already some of. It's nice because its free but the whole time they'll be trying to sell you stuff. Before you go get your makeup done it would be a good idea to take a look at the counters you like and the makeup you like, so when they are getting ready to do your makeup you can tell them that you already like such and such mascara, or foundation, etc.
I think your a teenager...and if you are a few good counters at Macys are Benefit(its fun and younger), Lancome, and I personally like Estee Lauder. You could also look at Nordstrom they have a great teenish makeup counter called MAC, or there's two face which is really good. Or maybe you might want to try going to Sephora, the store is like one big makeup counter, so you can kinda look into a few different brands.
Another good thing to do is bring a picture of a certain makeup look you want, unless you dont have any idea what you want, that way they can help you duplicate it. Or just tell them what kind of makeup looks you like and they'll experiment around with makeup for you.
If your doing this for a formal event I would for sure bring a picture. And proabably come in a few days before the event and go to the counter you plan on having it done at, so that way you know how your makeup will look. And if you go in advance then you can tell them of things you dont like about the way they applied your makeup.
In the end, when they try convincing you to buy makeup, just tell them you'll think about it. Or you forgot and didnt bring money with you. Or say, "I like this makeup and I might come back again to get it but for now I just want to see how it wears and get other peoples reactions to it". I find that this works best.

No, you go to Macy's and go to a make up counter and let them try their make up on you. You are suppossed to buy something, but you don't have to.

nope they have all the stuff already! its pretty cool because you can try on new stuff, and mix and match tons of colors. but i prefer nordstrom. go there. its awesome.
