To Defragmentate your disk do the following. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System tools, Disk Defragmenter. Choose your disk and start the defragmentation, It usually takes many hours so it is recommended to do it at nights.

To block your wireless router you have to create a security key for it. This is a longer process and probably the book of the wireless router brought instructions on that.

If you're going to defrag your HD, I suggest doing it in Safe Mode. This way as little as possible is running and it's much more effective.

In terms of your wireless router, my suggestion is registering MAC addresses. Since you (most likely) have few computers connecting to it, this is easy to do. When you do this, the router will only talk to specific computers. However, anytime you get a new computer, you have to go and add that MAC address.

to defrag your computer
assuming you have windows xp:
start-> control panel -> performance and maintenance -> rearrange items on your hard disk to make your programs run faster -> then disk defragmenter will pop up -> click analyze at bottom left -> wait for it to finish -> then click defragment -> then wait for it to finish. it will take a while

to block others access from your wireless internet router:
- open up your internet explorer (or firefox or whatever you use)
- in the address bar type in 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending which works. if it doesn't then go to start -> run -> cmd -> it will open up a black box -> type in "ipconfig" and press enter -> a bunch of things will show up (ip address, gateway) -> write down the "IP address" -> open up the internet -> put in that address that you wrote down
- you will be forced to enter in a username and password. just type in "admin" in the password unless you have previously changed the username and password.
- look around until you find disable free access or shared access or something

good luck. hope i was clear

go to the website of the manufacturer who made your router and look around.. if you have a linksys i know they have a program that you can download that will walk you through everything, and i imagine the other companies do as well..

and don't put this off too long.. i know a person who almost got into a lot of trouble because others were using his wireless internet to do not so great things.. and whatever they do comes right to your ip address
