Get a domain name at LunarPages.com, and sign up for a basic PHP account. Then use their Fanstatico scripts library to set up a Joomla site. Joomla is web software for content management. It makes it really easy to create and change content on your web site. It's really easy to use, and you dont have to know anything about HTML. There's also plenty of documentation about how to use Joomla if you search the web. That's the easiest way in my opinion.
For an example of a website built with Joomla visit www.jackpie.com

Yahoo offers Geocities,,, you can get the free version, or for a small fee get the ad-free with more storage space version,,,,,,, i think its 5 or 10 dollars,,
Boomspeed is also a good site,,, it no longer offers a free version, but does offer resonable, i believes its $62 a year,,,,
both of these are very good sites, easy to use,,,,
for web site building, some use a program,, i find , for me, it was better to learn HTML and to write my own code,,,, if you do this, just click "new file" on either website host you decide on, dont use a template,,,,,,, its easiet to make changes , add things etc, if you understand what code does exactly what,,,,,,,,
for info on html and web page building, check out some of the links on my links site i made,,

I get on really well with www.mrsite.co.uk (you can have .com, .net, .biz etc.) Which costs £30. You get your own domain, webmail and it's really easy to create the site!! I made my website there too!
