I asked precisely the same question about a divorcing husband and wife battling over custody. In each case, one parent was a stripper and one was a teacher. The only difference was that I reversed the roles. In one, the male was a stripper and in the other the female was the stripper.

Approx. 14 people answered each question. Where the male was the stripper, every person said the mother should get custody (except one who didn't care). Where the female was the stripper, about 3/4 wanted the mother to get custody or to have them share custody to be fair.

How come the double standard? Why did some people post defenses of the honorable profession of stripping when it was a female, but nobody defended the male stripper? Any thoughts?

Crud, if only I'd gotten off work on time I could have answered your questions to contribute my thoughts.

Unfortunately, the reality is that the mother nearly always gets custody of a child. There exists perceptions that, overall, a man can never be as good a parent as a woman. I know that's not true of all men nor all women. I suppose some of it could be regarding a natural bond established before the child is born. Some of it might be that since women are biologically required to bear the pregnancy, the woman should be free to enjoy the "fruits" of her labor, while the man is physically allowed to disappear before the child is born. Some of it could also be any social/cultural expectations of gender roles or a man's/woman's responsibility to the child (the man earns the money, the woman takes care of the home and children, and all that misogynistic crap).

One twist to this experiment might have been the sex of the child. I would be interested to see the results of a similar series of questions if the custody battle was over a 6 year old boy. That and ask readers to identify themselves as male or female.

I think most people want the mother in the child's life more because they consider her the more nurturing of the two ( or, the children don't need their father as much). As fathers are now more involved for about the past two generations, these stereotypes are changing...s l o w l y.

Cause men are expendable in this society. The only good thing for a man is lift heavy things, fix things, and make semen.

Everthing is so female baised, like women's **** dont stink.

personally I think the household where the child is safest and best taken care of. Your choice of career should have nothing to do with custody, it needs to be about the kids, they need to be put first.

People don't care about children they care about protecting mommy's and the right to be a slut without repercussions.

Then maybe we will give some consideration about the kids.

a million) I hate the sitcom formula "stupid fat guy and captivating clever spouse." this is no longer basically degrading to adult males. this is degrading to women people as nicely. It says that adult males are stupid and overlook their appearances, and that clever women everybody is prepared to settle for that. If women people merchandise, and choose a guy of equivalent intelligence, who shows them attention, they're nagging harpies. How is that flattering to everybody? Sitcoms are thoroughly sexist. Thankyou for pointing that out. 2) women everybody is people. people do undesirable issues. Feminists do no longer opt to create an phantasm of unassailable sanctity of girls people. they choose society to settle for that girls everybody is people, who've an identical capacities as adult males. i won't be in a position to be attentive to how people do no longer see that. Thankyou for pointing that out. 3) i'm basically theorising here, yet in line with danger the region of mom became into needed to the youngster's survival, back formerly infant formula became into invented. adult males are basically as in a position as women people at nurturing babies, and this is sexist to anticipate they are actually not. If between the dad and mom isn't worth, the youngsters should not be put in their care. in line with danger if we could desire to work out a transformation in baby custody circumstances, we could desire to alter the way we see women people as the two sluts or mothers. we could desire to work out them as people, with potential for ideal and incorrect, the way we presently see adult males. Thankyou for pointing that out.
