He could of had an ulterior motive. You were smart to not allow him to buy her a phone.

Probably did. And I am TOTALLY speaking from experience. A guy did the same thing to me when I was 18. He was 28 (I think) but my parents didn't know how old he was. He got me the cell phone (well he actually owned a cell phone store). Anyway, after that he was expecting quite a bit more. As women we know that you shouldn't accept all gifts. Some of them come with a price. As a mom, you probably want her to learn most lessons the easy way (through mom telling you). You did the right thing.

Its possible that he wanted the exchange but he may have just been trying to be nice and give gifts. you know him better than anyone of us who answer this question so just think about what kind of guy he is(nice,or a typical guy). also, how long they have been together. P.s. Is he going to pay a 16 yr old teenagers cell phone bill?

He may have just wanted a way to speak to her without having to call the house. However, I think it's totally inappropriate for an 18 year old to be buying a cell phone for his 16 year old girlfriend... it gives him an unhealthy level of control over her.

Maybe he just wanted an easy way of keeping in touch with her?! Although I have no children, I think parents tend to think the worst when they're child is involved!! Problem is, stopping children doing something makes them want to do it even more. He could still buy her the phone, and then she would hide it from you. Wouldn't you rather let him buy her it, and have her number? At least you would be able to contact her if something happened...

Honestly, an 18 year old is always interested in sex.... I think he wanted to buy her the cell phone to send pictures to each other or to control her...he's not a pimp is he?

I'm sure he was, but not only that, giving someone a cell phone sort of allows them to owe you, AND you can keep track of them better that way. He could be a control freak.

He might have just wanted to be able to contact her without you knowing it (for example...calling her in the middle of the night). Or...I've known of cases where controlling men provided cell phones for their young girlfriends so that they could keep consant tabs on them. But there's no way for you to really know what his intentions were.
