hi i'm 16 and in hs as well but i used to be really shy join a club (thats what i did) that and i got new friends so i was able to be myself change my personality i was able to joke and be funny i'm also very nice and patient (from being shy) and even though people can drive me crazy i don't let it affect me and people know that they can make fun of me, draw in my notes but don't let people take advantage of you and most of all be yourself don't go and buy fancy clothes or purses you don't need friends that like you for your fashion you want friends who like you for who you are don't act stupid that may get you poplular but people in general see that as idiotic goodluck

Honestly Amanda, I was the same in grade 8,9 and 10 but in 11 and 12 I really opened up. I am 37 now and when I think of all the uncomfortable and embarrasing situations I found myself in, they just don't matter anymore. They seem funny now. Take the chances even if they don't work out. It's more often the negative experiences that help you later in life and make you stronger and more self aware. Start getting more involved in conversations within your circle of friends and then you will be more prepared to respond more outwardly to someone you don't know as well. Keep the conversation going by answering with information and not just a yes or no. Ask them questions which will require more than a yes or no answer. Good luck.

I was like that until recently, the I just stopped giving a damn about what other people think of what I do. It was so much easier just to be myself and let go.

well, first thing i would try, i used to be like that to, if your at a new school or something, or just want to not be a shy kid, then just be spontaneous, try not to think ahead of how stupid or dumb something might sound or look like, just don't care about what otthers think, talk to people you dont talk to normally, dont be afraid to "look like a fool" it'll work trust me.

EZ. TELL YOURSELF "I'M GOING TO TALK TO SOMEONE NEW TODAY". PICK AN (EASY) TARGET AND APPROACH WITH SOMETHING NICE TO SAY (AUTHENTIC, OF COURSE). YOUR CONFIDENCE WILL BUILD. JUST LIKE WHEN YOU LEARNED TO RIDE A BIKE, RIGHT? FEATURE THIS: SHYNESS IS A PREOCCUPATION WITH "SELF". SO , PUT THE BALL IN THEIR COURT.
