my husband and i are getting ready to move into our first home. we have been living in apartments since we left our parents houses, and i wonder what are some things that we need to get? we have stuff like a couch, bedroom furniture, washer and dryer. i know we need a fridge, new door locks, a lawn mower, and an extra shower curtain for the other bathroom. a grill can wait till it is closer to the summer. there is a built in microwave and dishwasher. i appreciate any suggestions.

Congratulations on your new home. It's a great feeling, isn't it! Going down your list you are pretty well. Having a yard requires an outdoor extension cord, weed eater, etc... Watch for people's trash. I got my leaf blower, weed eater, & small outdoor tables, an office chair ( only had a drop of fingernail polish on it) before trash pick-up. Each one needed only a scew here, some glue there. We call it "Dumpster Diving". In our city you are suppose to put items that could be recycled beside your real trash. This is all in an effort to lower the landfill capacity

Set of hand tools, (screw drivers, various size wrenches, pliers, hammer, hack saw, tape measure etc.etc.)
A good assortment of screws and nails.
Don't forget duct tape and gorilla glue.
A good cordless drill/screwdriver
A set of paint brushes and roller handle and pan.
Good broom for garage along with a dust pan.
Shop Vac comes in very handy.
A couple of hours spent at Lowes/Homedepot will be worth it. You can get everything you would possibly need there. Check into opening an account with either place, you usually can get a pretty good discount on your first purchase. Also ask about discounts for new home owners.
Good luck in your new home..

I would concentrate on the window covering first that is if you like privacy of course!
