Once you turn 16, if you have a part time job, you have to pay tax but you can't vote for what the government spend your money on. I'm all for paying tax, that's fine, but if I'm old enough for them to take the money I earn, surely I'm old enough to vote?

I've had this discussion with people before. Your right if they can take away your money *although you do get it back* then you should be able to vote.
That's kinda like what my cousin told me when I turned 18 in Jan.,

"You are now old enough to be drafted (if a boy), enlist in the army, vote for president, rent or buy a home...but your not adult enough to legally drink."

Taxes have nothing to do with age, they have to do with the total amount earned and your status as a dependent or not.

Taxes also pay for many other things besides running the gov't. How do you get to work ? Drive on a road ? Built with tax money. Take a bath, flush the toilet. Originally installed by tax money. Etc. Etc.

Get used to it, you have a very long time to keep paying...

It's like training for real life you pay taxes, you get them back when you file and if you are really smart you will file your own taxes and not pay someone else to do it.

How much money could you possibly make?

Don't you know that you don't count in America unless you make 6 figures?
