my little wmp54 G PCI card wireless adapter has a setting that i can turn on thru windows called ad hoc mode, whats its purpoise? what can i do with it? is it possible to turn my computer into a wireless access point with ad hoc mode? im mainly connected to the internet with my ethernet cable, and i have 2 linksys cards in my computer, none of them are being used.

Ad-hoc mode is designed to allow wireless clients (pc's) to connect to each other without an access point.

Ad-hoc is to communicate to other computers on a local network. You will lose your internet connection under adhoc unless you are connected with another adapter.
