I'm just wondering if it will affect my computer by zipping a file using WinZip and password protect it so nobody can get in it without the password.

Its very safe to do so depending on the files. As long as the system doesnt use the files e.g. DLL files or SYS files you should be ok. As far as security goes, its very easy to crack a password protected file by winzip. If something is very confidential, I suggest using a third party encryption software. You can get it at download.com

Hope it helped!

Zipping doesn't make your file more secure, it is only the password that does. Using a password is very effective.

If this is really very sensitive material you are trying to protect i would recommend saving it on a secure and encrypted disk on key, not on your PC which other users may have access to.
