The most common excuse the oil companies give...and it's a good one, is that they emphasize the production of jet fuel (Alaska is a major cargo hub between Europe and East Asia, plus there are 4 major military bases, AND it's heavily reliant on air travel), which affects the supply of gasoline.

Convenient for them, of course, since it means they can sell gas for more, but also quite plausible.

Transportation costs account for some of the difference, as well, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's the fact that they can charge an arm and a leg in the villages and disguise that price as transportation costs that drives up the price in the cities (even North Pole, which is right next to the damn refinery)

There is lots of crude oil in Alaska but few refineries. Crude is transported to the lower 48's, refined and then shipped back to Alaska. It's the shipping costs...

Because Alaska doesn't have good roads to distribute the gas all around? Just guessing.

just like us here in Canada , we have the oil and the lower 48 have the refineries

did u ever get where if u go to some other state or something people ask did u live in igloos

i hate that!!!

for everybody thats reading this "alaska is the same thing as any other state....except its the biggest stae in the u.s. so hahah"
