Question about the Japanese Company, Sanrio.?

Does anyone know the proper reasons that could illustrate the failure of the expansion of Sanrio Company in UK, or even Europe?

Coz it seems that not so many people know about this brand name and even if some of them know, the brand still at a low status comparing to the other cartoon characters like the Disneys' and the Peanuts etc.
