My friend has just turn 13 today. Since she left my school we haven't really kept in touch. We weren't like best friends but were real close. Her father just dies today. How should I be a good friend to her? How do I let her know that I'm here for her? Will she resent me because we aren't best friends? Do I have a right to be upset even though he isn't my father and I haven't known him that much? Please help me be the best friend I can be at a time like this. Thank you for your help.

I know it's going to be hard but its a good idea to go the the wake and the funeral. I have had a lot of people die in my family and it really means a lot.
A nice sympathy card is good too.

Get a nice bouquet of flowers and a card and attend the funeral and/or wake. It is really nice to have support at times like these, no matter who is there for you. Sometimes situations like this can even rekindle friendships and make you two closer.

In the end, your support and thoughts should make her feel a lot better at a time like this. My only suggestion is not to push your friendship on her, because she may just want to be by herself or may already have an extensive system of support that she rather lean on.

You don't say if she lives close to you or not.
A phone call or a note would be good.

Often the week or two after the death is very longly. It would be nice for you to check in with her then.
