according to Kryptonsite.com the actors who play Lex, Lana, and Chloe all have contracts that expire at the end of season 7. Lex, Lana have stated they plan to leave, and I believe Chloe is said to be doing the same.
So far as I know CW will grant a 7th season, and unless TPTB can change some minds the series would likely end at that time.
Bear in mind we are now at ep 14/15? of 22 in season 6.
I would rather have 7 good seasons then to push an 8th or beyond w/o several major characters and be like....
That 70's Show
Happy Days
Laverne &Shirley
Chicago Hope
Northern Exposure
All in The Family
and the countless other shows that were good in their prime but replaced several charaters and forced a bad season or more on their fans.

According to the Smallville magazine, it sounds like they are planning another season! Yay! I love that show.

I hope not, I love Smallville, Tom Welling is so hot, he makes me smile everytime i see him.. they need to get rid of lana though, I could be clark's new girlfriend..lol!
