i have already had one done at 20 weeks, but now im almost 33, and i really think that another one should be done...i mean isnt it important to check on the development of the baby? or the position of the baby? i have asked my dr several times to have one done, and she keeps telling me that if i need another one then i will have another done, but should'nt i the MOTHER have some input?? what can i say to get my way??

I'm 33 weeks as well. They will not give you another ultrasound unless there is a problem. I know it sucks. Your Dr will be able to tell which way the baby is facing. I was having ALOT of pressure in my pelvic area and told my dr. at the appointment yesterday. She examined me and could tell right away that he was head down, ready to come out. It's not a bad thing that you aren't having one. If you do, however, go past your due date they will give you one!

No you shouldnt have any input. Sounds a little harsh but their is a reason it is set up this way. Excessive ultrasounds are not a good idea. Sonograms/ultrasounds are only used during the most important times of development. They are only used more if it is medically necessary. at 20 weeks is the best time to see everything that is going on with your baby. Insurance also only allows for a certain amount. They are not something to be overused. Doctors can tell by other methods to see what position as baby is. Its very rare for a baby all of a sudden to develop a medical problem. It would of been caught at the two earlier ultrasounds/sonograms

Well, usually doctors like to give ultrasounds as a way to ease a mother's mind....so I find it a bit odd that your's is down right refusing, but who knows. At 20 weeks they do the anatomy u/s, in which it is the easiest time during the baby's development to check for almost all problems. Once the baby gets so big, it's harder to 'see' things and measure them accurately. Or something like that, so you should take a little bit of reassurance that they found all to be good at the 20 week ultrasound.

I only had one, and I didnt have a problem with that they checked the baby to make sure everything was good and baby was in the right position. If you want one then pay for one!

But usually after the first one the doctor knows whats going on, and can tell by measuring you etc at your visits.

Kaiser asked me if I knew my final menstrual era I instructed them some time in december yet uncertain of the ideal day so as that they scheduled me an appointment that week for an ultrasound to degree the baby to work out how far alongside i replaced into, 6weeks& 6days. That replaced into the 1st time I seen my infant. Then I had the 2d appointment at 12 weeks to pay attention my infant's pay attention beat with the doppler gadget and that they gave me finished examination. From there they scheduled me to have an ultrasound at 18 weeks to verify the baby's intercourse. i ask your self why they have not seen you yet? start up taking your prenatal pills!

Alot of OBs dont do another U/S other than the 20 week anatomy. The reson is that it is still unknown how dangerous U/S are to developing fetus that is why it is not recommended to use out side u/S clinics. Your baby should be fine. They can feel your bely to see how baby is lying & if necisary will do a U/S to confirm breech if that becomes a concern

I have heard that too many ultrasounds can harm the baby. It was shown to cause brain damage in rats. Have you notice an increase in Sensory issues and Autism? I know I have. So maybe it's a good thing you only had one. You don't have very much longer before you see the real thing.
Congratulations!

Sonograms are expensive and are only done for medical reasons. She can feel the baby's position with her hands and knows the baby is growing properly by measuring you and keeping track of your weight. If you want another one, then pay for it yourself at one of those 3D places..

The first thing I would do is get a second opinion. My pregnancy was high risk so I had one every two weeks. you can also find an independent ultrasound place and have one done on your own.

I had 3 done only because I was high risk and we were looking for a certain defect. I think they usually only do the one. Ask your doc to explain to you why. Also, i don't htink the insurance ccompany will pay if it's not medically neccesary.
