Beast policy? Was that a Freudian slip?

Republicans (and some Democrats) have this delusional belief that if you cut off funding, it will force Congress to cut expenses. What they never get, though, is that there is VERY LITTLE in the Federal budget that CAN be cut. 89% of the budget is tied up in defense, guaranteed benefits (social security, etc) and interest on the current debt. Only 11% of the budget goes to EVERYTHING ELSE.

We have a lot of problems in this country. I think the worst one, though, is that nobody wants to deal with the consequences of the decsions we make. The cost is always someone else's problem.

Here's a test: Would YOU go to a bank and take out a $200,000 loan, knowing that you don't have the income to make the payments, spend it on things that do not retain their value, and expect your children to pay it off when you die?

That is PRECISELY what Congress does every day. And we allow it to continue because we're not yet feeling the pain that it will certainly cause in the future. But it's coming.

In 2006, the INTEREST on the national debt was close to 300 billion dollars. Imagine what we could do if we didn't have to throw that money away every year to service the debt that we've already accumulated? We could fully fund Social Security. We could provide every child with free health care. We could double teacher's salaries.

We could even lower taxes WITHOUT going into debt!

I wonder that too. They sure don´t act on it. Bush has NEVER vetoed a spending bill the entire time Republicans were in control.

Just look a the record deficit. They are just borrowing money to feed the beast.

Because they don't have the balls to admit to the American public that they want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare, so instead they are doing it the stealth way.

I dont think its their intention, just an unintended result in their arrogance and lack of monetary concern.
